Synopsis

“Dragat” is the name of the main character in this offbeat, original children’s story, written and illustrated by Brian Richards.

Dragat is not quite a dragon; in fact no one really knows what kind of species he is. Dragat runs into a bit of trouble just roaming through town simply because he appears to be different from the other animals he meets.

The other animals he encounters, one after another do not accept him. This makes Dragat very upset and he well, let's just say he doesn’t deal with these insults in such a diplomatic fashion. He loses his temper with every insult and in fact eats each animal that insults him. But it's not as brutal as that may sound, fear not, all the animals are safe and sound in his stomach and they in fact throw a very large party by the end of the story.

When Dragat encounters his first true love, “Dragetta” he learns that not everyone finds his appearance revolting. He falls in love, happily decides to let all the animals in his stomach free, and lives happily ever after.

The story is taken from Brian's life. All through his adolescence he was a skinny, small, gawky kid. He felt he was not accepted and easily picked on for his appearance. He now realises how this can damage a child’s self-esteem.

Brian has high hopes for this character and believes Dragat could go places and be a symbol for kids or anyone who feels different.
