Synopsis

Summer 1862 finds America in the grip of an increasingly bloody civil war. The Confederate Army of Virginia has invaded the North and now faces the enemy on their own ground, but tragedy stalks their every move.

When his commanding officer is killed by "friendly fire", Captain Joshua McAndrew, young, inexperienced and ill prepared, finds himself promoted to lead his regiment, the North Carolina Grenadiers, only to face the spectre of defeat and surrender following his first engagement at their head.

As their country descends further and further into chaos, McAndrew's friends and family are inevitably sucked into the maelstrom. His devoted parents are drawn from their sheltered life into a harsh, brutal world for which neither is prepared. Like their son, they will need courage, faith and determination if they are to survive the trials that await them in the long months ahead.
