SynopsisEdward Cooper hated Jews. He had been brought up in a country where the people knew the right thing to do with the infidels; kill them all. He had also been raised to respect women and to protect the weak and so, when he witnesses an assault on a Jewish couple by two wealthy young nobles, he is faced with an impossible dilemma. His solution leads him to question his beliefs, to become estranged from his family and finally to become involved in a conflict which may claim his friends' lives as well as his own. Against this background of rampant anti-Semitism, the young man finds himself drawn into a world he simply does not understand, a world of violence, prejudice, murder, rape and child sacrifice, and soon discovers that the simple rules by which he lives are no longer adequate. Set in the England of 1320, The Yellow Badge mixes history with fiction to create a disturbing picture of English racism and hatred over six centuries before the world had ever heard of the Nazis.
