Ty Dalby was educated at Boston Grammar School where he became Head Boy and played as the first eleven soccer team goalkeeper for two seasons before moving up to Hull University where he took a BA Degree in Drama and French, part of which he spent at the University of Grenoble in France. Graduating in 1970, he worked as a temporary teacher before finding employment in the pop music world with a London agency that represented several well-known rock groups, including the chart topping Mungo Jerry.

Leaving the pop world, he then trained as a teacher of English and Drama at Loughborough College, where he gained a Distinction. There then followed fifteen years of secondary school teaching at Billinghay, Derby, Grantham and Spilsby before he gave up classroom teaching to become a freelance writer and musician; he was also the player-manager of the local amateur soccer team, People United.

In addition to having many of his works published, including the autobiography of his youth, "A Boston Boyhood", Ty has also had his own regular newspaper or magazine columns over the years such as "View from the Northern Fens" ("The Greyhound Advertiser" and "The Greyhound Monthly"); "Gliderdrome Glory Days" ("The Boston Target"); and "Ty Dalby's Pop-Rock Corner" ("The Boston News"). He was awarded the "Kim Whybrow Memorial Trophy" in 1989, by "White Rose Literary Magazine" for his epic boxing poem "Fate Fighter" and received an Arts Council poetry award in 2003, enabling him to go on tour.

His many interests include the history of pop music, song writing, long-distance running, training greyhounds; and boxing as a means of self-defence. He is a current member of Boston Writers' Club and a founder member of The Boston Poetry Society. Now in his late-fifties and semi-retired, he still gives regular readings of his poems and short stories in various venues and is currently also employed as a part-time schooler of racing greyhounds for the well-known Sheffield trainer, Keith Minett, whose base is just outside Boston in Lincolnshire, which is Ty's home-town and the place where he still resides.
